How to Tackle the Summer Slowdown: 10 Tips for Resellers
As a reseller on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, and Depop, I’ve noticed that summer can bring a slowdown in sales. For me, items like shorts and sandals don’t sell for as much as my winter coats and boots. Despite this, I manage to sell the approximate quantity I list each day from my inventory of about 500 items. Here are ten tips I’ve found helpful for managing and planning my business during the slower summer months:
Review and Update Listings: Take advantage of the slower period to review and update existing listings. Ensure that descriptions are accurate, detailed, and include relevant keywords to improve search visibility and attract more buyers.
Refresh Photos: High-quality images are crucial for attracting buyers. Use the summer slowdown to retake photos, ensuring they are clear and well-lit, and showcase the items from multiple angles.
Optimize Titles: Revisit the titles of your listings. Make sure they are optimized with relevant keywords that potential buyers are likely to use in their searches.
Adjust Pricing: Analyze your pricing strategy. Consider running promotions or discounts to attract buyers during the slower months. Adjust prices based on market trends and competition.
Inventory Audit: Conduct an inventory audit to check for any items that may have been misplaced, damaged, or out-of-season. This helps in maintaining an organized inventory and preparing for the upcoming busy season.
Seasonal Planning: Use this time to plan for the upcoming season. Research trends and stock up on items that are likely to be in demand in the fall and winter. This proactive approach ensures you're ready when the season changes.
Marketing Strategies: Develop and implement marketing strategies to boost visibility and sales. Utilize social media, email newsletters, and promotions to reach a wider audience.
Customer Engagement: Engage with your customers through personalized messages, thank you notes, or special offers for repeat buyers. Developing strong customer relationships can result in repeat business and positive reviews.
Education and Training: Invest time in learning new skills related to reselling, such as SEO techniques, photography, or social media marketing. This can enhance your business operations and give you a competitive edge.
Cross-Listing: Consider expanding your presence on multiple platforms like eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop and more. Cross-listing can increase exposure and sales opportunities. The cross-lister I have been using is Reeva. Stay tuned for a future blog post on how Reeva has improved my business.
By focusing on these aspects during the summer slowdown, resellers can improve their business operations, enhance their listings, and prepare for the busier seasons ahead. Taking proactive steps during slower months not only helps maintain a steady stream of sales but also positions resellers for greater success when demand increases.
